DoubleTap .44 Special 200gr TAC-XP Ballistics
Brass Case • TAC-XP • MPN: 44S200X
Solved from this product's advertised 1000 fps, 200gr bullet and G1 BC 0.138, with the sight 0.5" over the bore at standard conditions. Compare every zero for .44 Special.
How to read it: filled circles are the near and far zero, where the bullet's path crosses the line of sight;the triangle is the peak (max ordinate). The shaded band is the 4" vital zone, ±2" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 100 yards.

Product Overview
The TAC-XP is a solid copper hollow point designed for self-defense, and DoubleTap drives the 200-grain version to 1,000 fps with 444 ft-lbs at the muzzle. That gives a power factor of 200, well over the 165 major floor. From a 25-yard zero the bullet is 1.8 inches low at 50 yards and 13.1 inches low at 100, and it still carries 345 ft-lbs at the 100-yard mark.
No other load in its group matches it on speed or energy, and none kicks as hard. PMC Bronze 180 comes nearest on velocity, only 20 fps slower, but carries 60 ft-lbs less and produces about 22 percent less recoil energy in the same revolver. Among the 200-grain loads, CCI Blazer 200 trails by 80 fps and kicks about 13 percent less, Fiocchi 200 SJHP trails by 100 fps with about 16 percent less, and Federal Champion 200 LSWCHP trails by 130 fps with about 20 percent less. Federal Personal Defense 180-grain marks the far end: 185 fps slower and about 42 percent softer. Each step down the list gives up energy and gains control.
This is the load for a shooter who wants the most energy of any .44 Special load in this group and can control the recoil for fast follow-up shots. Anyone who wants still more should step up to .44 Magnum. Shooters with a lightweight carry revolver should look at Black Hills HoneyBadger 125 instead, which produces about 45 percent less recoil energy in the same revolver.
- 84 ft-lbs more muzzle energy than Fiocchi 200 SJHP and 68 more than CCI Blazer 200
- Power factor 26 points higher than Federal Champion 200 LSWCHP
- Still carries 388 ft-lbs of energy at 50 yards
- Heaviest recoil in the group, above CCI Blazer 200 and Fiocchi 200 SJHP, which slows follow-up shots
- Power factor is 35 over the major floor, margin that adds recoil without adding score
- Black Hills HoneyBadger 125 comes within 27 ft-lbs of its muzzle energy with far less recoil
