Hornady Critical Duty is a 175-grain FlexLock at 1,010 fps and 396 ft-lbs, compared here with the 180-grain hollow points. FlexLock is Hornady's polymer-tipped hollow point built for duty use. Power factor 177, 12 over the 165 major floor. It drops 1.8 inches at 50 yards and 12.7 at 100 from a 25-yard zero, carrying 948 fps and 350 ft-lbs at 50 and 899 fps and 314 at 100. In the same compact pistol it produces about 8 percent less recoil energy than Speer Gold Dot 180 and 6 percent less than Remington Golden Saber 180 or Blazer Brass 180.
Gold Dot 180 at 1,025 fps and 420 ft-lbs is 15 fps and 24 ft-lbs ahead at the muzzle and 11 ft-lbs ahead at 100 yards. Golden Saber 180 and Blazer Brass 180 run 1,015 fps and 412 ft-lbs, 5 fps and 16 ft-lbs ahead; Blazer Brass reaches 100 yards 8 fps faster and 0.2 inch flatter.
