Blazer Brass 180-grain .40 S&W leaves at 1,015 fps with 412 ft-lbs. It is a plain jacketed hollow point in a brass case, so it reloads, and the bullet is meant to open in a soft target. Power factor is 183, about 18 over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero it drops 1.7 inches at 50 yards and 12.5 inches at 100, and it holds 955 fps at 50 and 907 fps at 100.

At the muzzle it matches Remington Golden Saber exactly: 1,015 fps, 412 ft-lbs, same recoil estimate. Speer Gold Dot is 10 fps and 8 ft-lbs ahead at 1,025 fps with about 2 percent more recoil energy in the same pistol, but by 100 yards the Blazer Brass is 5 fps faster, 907 against 902, with the same 12.5 inches of drop, because it holds velocity better. Magtech at 990 fps is 25 fps and 20 ft-lbs behind with about 4 percent less recoil and 0.6 inch more drop at 100. Sellier & Bellot at 974 fps is 41 fps and 33 ft-lbs back with about 7 percent less recoil. This is the practice hollow point for anyone carrying Golden Saber 180, since the two are the same load on paper, and it is within 2 percent of Gold Dot in recoil. It also works as a plain hollow point for a home pistol. If you want less recoil, American Gunner is the softest 180 here. For ball practice, Ammo Inc Signature 180-grain TMJ runs 958 fps, 57 fps slower, with about 10 percent less recoil energy, so it will not feel like this load the way Golden Saber does.
