Product Overview
The lightest bullet in the .357 Magnum expanding lineup carries the lowest recoil, and Remington's HTP 110-grain is one of two loads here built that way. It is a semi-jacketed hollow point: the jacket stops short of the nose and leaves the lead core exposed at the tip. Remington lists 1,295 fps and 410 ft-lbs, a power factor of 142 that clears the 125 minor floor by 17 points but not the 165 major floor. From a 25-yard zero the bullet is 1.0 inch low at 50 yards and 8.5 inches low at 100. The case is nickel-plated brass, which reloads like plain brass.
Winchester's 110-grain JHP posts the same 1,295 fps, 410 ft-lbs and recoil estimate, so on paper the two 110s are interchangeable. The 125-grain loads pull away quickly. Winchester PDX1 Defender 125 is 30 fps and 77 ft-lbs ahead with about 35 percent more recoil energy in the same revolver. Remington's own HTP 125-grain and Remington UMC 125 JSP both list 1,450 fps and 584 ft-lbs, 155 fps and 174 ft-lbs more than this load, at about 57 percent more recoil energy. Hornady American Gunner 125 XTP lists 1,500 fps and 624 ft-lbs and about 67 percent more recoil energy; Hornady rates its loads under different test conditions than Remington, so its 205 fps lead is a published gap, not one a single revolver would reproduce in full.
This is the .357 expanding load for a shooter who finds the 125-grain loads too much in a light revolver and wants the least recoil the caliber offers. If the recoil is fine and you want the energy, Remington HTP 125-grain is the same bullet style with 174 ft-lbs more. If the load is going into a lever gun, Hornady LEVERevolution 140-grain FTX lists 645 ft-lbs, 235 ft-lbs more than this load, at about 95 percent more recoil energy in the same revolver.
