Product Overview

Remington loads this High Terminal Performance round with a 110gr semi-jacketed hollow point at 1,295 fps, producing 410 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. The 110gr bullet is the lightest standard weight available in .357 Mag, and the reduced mass translates directly into less felt recoil than 125gr or 158gr loads. Remington uses nickel-plated brass cases for corrosion resistance and smooth extraction. The SJHP design features an exposed lead core at the nose that initiates expansion on contact with soft tissue.

The lightweight bullet is a specific design choice for shooters who struggle with magnum recoil. In a lightweight J-frame revolver like the Smith & Wesson 640 or Ruger SP101, full-power 158gr loads can produce punishing recoil that slows follow-up shots and discourages practice. The 110gr HTP reduces that kick substantially. The trade-off is energy: 410 ft-lbs is noticeably less than the 584 ft-lbs you get from Remington's own 125gr HTP. The lighter bullet also loses velocity faster downrange, which limits effective expansion distance.

This load is best suited for concealed carry in a small-frame revolver where the shooter prioritizes fast, accurate shot placement over raw terminal energy. It also works as a first round in a mixed-load cylinder, where the light recoil helps the shooter stay on target for the heavier follow-up rounds behind it. Recoil-sensitive shooters or those with hand injuries will find this more shootable than any other .357 Mag hollow point. It is not an ideal choice for hunting or barrier penetration, where the heavier 125gr and 158gr loads perform better.

Strengths
  • Lowest recoil of any .357 Mag hollow point, making it practical in lightweight snub-nose revolvers
  • Nickel-plated brass cases feed smoothly and resist tarnishing during extended carry
  • The SJHP opens quickly at 1,295 fps, creating wide wound channels at close defensive distances
  • Easier to shoot accurately under stress than harder-kicking 125gr and 158gr magnum loads
Limitations
  • Muzzle energy of 410 ft-lbs is 30% below the 584 ft-lbs of Remington's own 125gr HTP in the same caliber
  • The light 110gr bullet loses velocity quickly and may not expand reliably past 15-20 yards
  • Shallow penetration in gel tests compared to 125gr and 158gr loads, which may fall short of the FBI's 12-inch minimum
  • Not suitable for hunting or barrier penetration where heavier bullets have a clear advantage
