The SJHP design features an exposed lead core at the nose that initiates expansion on contact with soft tissue.

The lightweight bullet is a specific design choice for shooters who struggle with magnum recoil. In a lightweight J-frame revolver like the Smith & Wesson 640 or Ruger SP101, full-power 158gr loads can produce punishing recoil that slows follow-up shots and discourages practice. The 110gr HTP reduces that kick substantially. The trade-off is energy: 410 ft-lbs is noticeably less than the 584 ft-lbs you get from Remington's own 125gr HTP.
