Product Overview
Winchester's PDX1 Defender loads a 125gr bonded jacketed hollow point to 1,325 fps with 487 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. The "B" in BJHP means the jacket is chemically bonded to the lead core, which prevents the two from separating on impact. This is the same bonding technology Winchester developed for law enforcement contracts. The nickel-plated brass case resists corrosion and feeds smoothly in both revolvers and the handful of semi-auto platforms chambered in .357 Mag.
The bonded core is the main advantage over traditional semi-jacketed or standard JHP designs. When a non-bonded bullet hits bone or passes through heavy clothing, the jacket can peel away and leave a bare lead slug that pencils straight through without expanding. The PDX1's bonded construction holds together through these barriers, maintaining both expansion diameter and weight retention above 95%. This matters most when shooting through car doors, heavy denim layers, or angled windshield glass.
The PDX1 is a dedicated carry and home defense load. At 125gr, it generates less felt recoil than 158gr magnum rounds while still delivering genuine .357 Mag velocity. The lighter bullet also transitions faster between shots in double-action revolvers like the Smith & Wesson 686 or Ruger GP100. Law enforcement agencies and armed citizens who need barrier-blind performance from a revolver will get reliable expansion from this load in scenarios where cheaper JHP designs would fail.
- Bonded jacket-to-core construction maintains 95%+ weight retention through intermediate barriers like auto glass and heavy clothing
- Nickel-plated brass cases resist corrosion for long-term storage in a carry revolver
- The 125gr bullet produces less recoil than 158gr loads while keeping velocity at genuine magnum levels
- FBI-protocol barrier performance that standard JHP and SJHP designs from Remington HTP or S&B cannot match
- At 487 ft-lbs, muzzle energy is the lowest among common .357 Mag defensive weights due to the light 125gr bullet
- Premium pricing puts the PDX1 well above standard SJHP loads for practice and training use
- The bonded bullet expands to a slightly smaller diameter than non-bonded designs that shed jacket material
- May be louder and produce more muzzle flash than heavier, slower loads due to the fast-burning powder charge behind a light bullet
