Product Overview
Fiocchi loads this .357 Magnum with a 142-grain truncated-cone FMJ at 1,420 fps and 636 ft-lbs. The truncated cone is a flat-nosed jacketed range bullet; it is not built to expand. Power factor works out to 202, well over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero the bullet drops 0.7 inches at 50 yards and 6.7 inches at 100.
The other ball loads on this page are all 158-grain, and the Fiocchi is the fast one short of the Armscor. It leaves the muzzle 157 fps ahead of Sellier & Bellot 158 FMJ and 185 fps ahead of Magtech 158 FMJ Flat, and the lighter bullet keeps recoil at the same level: about 1 percent less recoil energy than the Sellier & Bellot and about 3 percent more than the Magtech in the same revolver. Armscor 158 FMJ is listed at 1,545 fps and 823 ft-lbs, 125 fps and 187 ft-lbs ahead of the Fiocchi, with about 43 percent more recoil energy. This is full-magnum practice for shooters who carry or hunt with a magnum load and want range time that feels the same. The closest match on the site is Hornady LEVERevolution 140-grain FTX: 20 fps and 9 ft-lbs apart at the muzzle, with recoil energy equal within 1 percent, so a session with the Fiocchi is a session with that load minus the expanding bullet. If you want to practice at the weight most magnum carry loads use, Magtech 158 FMJ Flat or Sellier & Bellot 158 FMJ is the 158-grain choice. If you want high-volume practice without magnum recoil, .38 Special is the softer option; none of these ball loads is.
