Blazer Brass .357 Mag 158-grain JHP is the mildest load in this set: 1,150 fps and 464 ft-lbs at the muzzle. Power factor is 182, 17 points over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero the bullet is 1.3 inches low at 50 yards and 9.8 inches low at 100.
Every other 158 here is faster. Fiocchi Defense Dynamics 158-grain JHP, the next-softest, is 70 fps faster, and the Blazer produces about 10 percent less recoil energy than it in the same revolver. Federal Fusion 158-grain SP is 90 fps and 75 ft-lbs ahead. Sellier & Bellot 158-grain soft point is 113 fps and 96 ft-lbs ahead. Hornady Custom 158-grain XTP publishes 84 ft-lbs and 16 power-factor points more, though Hornady's velocity is not measured the same way as the other makers', so that margin is a paper one. Sellier & Bellot 158-grain SJHP is the far end, 179 fps faster, with the Blazer carrying about 22 percent less recoil energy.
Buy it for a shooter who wants a .357 hollow point with the least recoil in this set and will give up energy for it. Anyone who wants full 158-grain energy should take Federal Fusion at 539 ft-lbs.
