About This Suppressor

The Rugged Obsidian45 is a modular aluminium and stainless steel pistol suppressor for .45 ACP handguns. It has an MSRP of $930. Its ADAPT module gives two lengths, 8.6 inches and 12.8 ounces full size or 6.7 inches and 10.7 ounces short.

Rugged says the included .578x28 piston fits most standard threaded .45 Auto barrels, and a .45 front cap comes with it. Its pistons and mounts interchange with the Obsidian9, so a pair of Rugged cans shares hardware. Rugged rates it Belt Fed for pistol calibres up to .45 ACP, and beyond those for subsonic 300 Blackout, 350 Legend and .450 Bushmaster.

If you're cross-shopping, the Silencer Central Banish PSTL 45 Ti has an MSRP of $979, is titanium instead of aluminium and stainless, and runs 11 ounces at the same 8.6 inches. The Rugged Obsidian9 has an MSRP of $842 and stops at 9mm, so it will not take a .45. The Obsidian45 is the cheaper of the two .45-calibre cans on this list.

Strengths & Limitations

Pros

  • Two lengths from one can, so the short build suits a pistol and the long one a carbine.
  • Pistons and mounts interchange with the Obsidian9, so a second Rugged can shares hardware.
  • A piston and a front cap are in the box, so a threaded .45 is ready as delivered.

Cons

  • Heavier in its full-size build than the titanium .45-calibre can on this list.
  • Both builds run longer than the Obsidian9's, so a .45 setup sits further out at the muzzle.
