About This Suppressor
The Dead Air Odessa-9 is a stainless steel pistol suppressor for 9mm handguns. It has an MSRP of $899. Dead Air rates it for 9mm, .22 WMR, 5.7x28mm and .32 Auto, so one can covers a 9mm pistol, a .22 Magnum pistol and an FN 5.7.
It uses a piston booster mount, and the piston is a separate buy that sets the thread for the host; Dead Air also sells fixed mounts for guns that do not recoil the barrel. With the piston and spring fitted it is 8.25 inches and 10.1 ounces, and without them 7.75 inches and 7.4 ounces, which is how it sits on a fixed mount. Dead Air states it is not full-auto rated.
If you're cross-shopping, the SilencerCo Osprey 9 2.0 has an MSRP of $819 and an offset body that clears a pistol's sights, where the Odessa-9 is round at 1.1 inches. The Rugged Obsidian9 has an MSRP of $842 and takes apart into a 4.85-inch short build. Of the three, the Obsidian9 is the one that includes its piston.
Strengths & Limitations
Pros
- Takes a fixed mount as well as the piston booster, so a carbine or a fixed-barrel pistol is an option.
- Runs lighter without the piston and spring on a fixed mount.
Cons
- Dead Air does not rate it for full-auto fire, which rules out subgun use.
- The piston is a separate purchase, so the price on the tag is not the whole cost.
- Among the 9mm cans on this list it is the longest with its piston fitted.
Where to Buy
