The reason to pick CCI's TNT Green is its bullet: the Speer TNT Green, a lead-free hollow point, which CCI markets for varmints. CCI rates it at a G1 BC of .090, and it leaves the muzzle at 2,050 fps, the slowest of the 30-grain loads it is compared with. That lower start shows up in both wind and drop once shots stretch past 100 yards.
Compared with CCI's Maxi-Mag TNT 30-grain, a jacketed hollow point, the TNT Green starts 150 fps slower. At 150 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the TNT Green about 16 inches sideways and the Maxi-Mag about 15, so the difference in the wind is small. Compared with CCI's Varmint Tipped 30-grain, the gap is larger: the same wind pushes the Varmint Tipped only about 11 inches at 150 yards. Zeroed at 100 yards, the Varmint Tipped drops about 4 inches at 150 and the TNT Green about 6.
Buy the TNT Green if you need a lead-free bullet for varmints and most of your shots stay inside 100 yards.
