Product Overview
Federal markets its Trophy Copper line for a "wide range of medium and big game," and this 140-grain load is for hunters who want a bullet without lead. Trophy Copper is a polymer-tipped copper bullet with no lead core. It leaves the muzzle at 3,150 fps with 3,085 ft-lbs of energy.
Compared with Barnes' VOR-TX 140-grain TTSX, another polymer-tipped copper bullet with no lead core, the Trophy Copper starts 50 fps faster. Compared with Federal's Vital-Shok 140-grain Trophy Bonded Tip, which has a lead core bonded to its jacket, the Trophy Copper leaves the muzzle at the same speed and kicks the same in the same rifle, so the choice between the two comes down to the bullet.
Buy the Trophy Copper if you want a copper bullet with no lead core for the medium and big game Federal markets the line for. Pick the Vital-Shok 140-grain Trophy Bonded Tip if a lead core is fine and you want a bonded bullet; Federal markets it for the "full spectrum of medium and big game at any practical range." Pick the Barnes VOR-TX 140-grain TTSX if you prefer Barnes' copper bullet, which Barnes markets for big game and medium game. Pick Remington's Core-Lokt 140-grain PSP if you want a traditional lead-core soft point, which Remington markets for big game. For a much heavier bullet, HSM's Trophy Gold 180-grain Berger VLD, a long, low-drag hunting bullet, kicks about 47 percent harder in the same rifle.
- Carries 3,085 ft-lbs at the muzzle to 2,988 for Sako's PowerHead Blade 140-grain, another copper bullet
- Kicks about 1 percent less than Remington's Core-Lokt 140-grain PSP in the same rifle
- Matches the 3,085 ft-lbs of Federal's Vital-Shok 140-grain Trophy Bonded Tip with a bullet that has no lead core
- Remington's Core-Lokt 140-grain PSP starts 25 fps faster, at 3,175 fps
- Kicks about 2 percent harder than Barnes' VOR-TX 140-grain TTSX in the same rifle
- Remington's Core-Lokt 140-grain PSP carries 48 ft-lbs more at the muzzle: 3,133 against 3,085
