Best 6mm Creedmoor Ammo

Every load we price, sorted by cost per round delivered to your state

We track 4 6mm Creedmoor loads from 3 dealers. The cheapest delivered to AR, shipping included, is Federal Gold Medal 6mm Creedmoor 105gr Berger Hybrid OTM Ammo at $2.70 a round. By use: Competition from $2.70 and Hunting from $2.97.

The 6mm Creedmoor is a precision rifle match cartridge: a 105 to 108 grain bullet at about 2,950 fps drifts little in wind and recoils lightly enough to watch your own hits through the scope. It is the 6.5 Creedmoor case necked down to hold .243" bullets, a wildcat that SAAMI standardized in 2017. It fits short-action bolt guns and some AR-10 pattern rifles.

The loads on this page are match loads: the Hornady 108 grain ELD Match and the Federal Gold Medal 105 grain Berger Hybrid. Both are built for paper and steel, not for controlled expansion on game. For deer or antelope, choose a load with a hunting bullet. Check your barrel stamp before buying; the 6mm Creedmoor and 6.5 Creedmoor share a case length but do not interchange.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Pros

  • Against 6.5 Creedmoor: less recoil, so you can spot your own hits at match distances.
  • Heavy 105 to 108 grain match bullets keep their speed well at long range.
  • Uses the same bolt face and short action as the 6.5 Creedmoor, so a barrel swap converts many rifles.
  • Against .243 Winchester: the case is designed to hold long, heavy bullets in a short-action magazine.

Cons

  • Against 6.5 Creedmoor: shorter barrel life at the same round count.
  • Against 6.5 Creedmoor: lighter bullets, so less energy for game bigger than deer.
  • Fewer factory load types, especially hunting loads.
  • Needs a fast twist barrel for the heavy match bullets; check yours before buying 105 grain loads.
