Winchester markets its Copper Impact 162-grain Extreme Point for big game, from deer to elk. The Copper Extreme Point is a polymer-tipped copper bullet with no lead core, for hunters who need or prefer lead-free ammunition. It is rated at a G1 BC of .564 and leaves the muzzle at 2,875 fps. Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 12 inches at 300 yards.
Compared with Winchester's Ballistic Silvertip 170-grain, the Copper Impact starts 45 fps slower, but it kicks about 11 percent less in the same rifle. The Silvertip uses a polymer tip over a lead core, so the choice between the two comes down to whether you want lead-free ammunition or a little more speed. Compared with Winchester's Expedition Big Game 165-grain AccuBond LR, the nearest bullet weight, the Copper Impact leaves the muzzle with 257 fewer ft-lbs, and the Expedition kicks about 8 percent harder in the same rifle.
