The shaded band is the 8" vital zone, ±4" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 500 yards.

Product Overview

Browning markets its Long Range Pro Hunter 175-grain TGK for big game at long range, naming a bugling bull or the ram of a lifetime. It is loaded with Sierra's Tipped GameKing, a polymer-tipped hunting bullet, and at 175 grains it is heavier than each of the Winchester loads it is compared with. It leaves the muzzle at 2,835 fps with 3,124 ft-lbs.

Compared with Winchester's Expedition Big Game 165-grain AccuBond LR, which Winchester also markets for big game at long range, the Browning starts 135 fps slower, and it kicks about 7 percent harder in the same rifle. The two are built for the same job, so the choice is between the heavier bullet and the faster start. Compared with Winchester's Ballistic Silvertip 170-grain, the nearest bullet weight, the Browning leaves the muzzle 85 fps slower and kicks about 3 percent harder in the same rifle.

Buy the Long Range Pro Hunter if you hunt big game at long range and want a 175-grain bullet for it. Pick the Expedition Big Game 165-grain if you want a long-range big-game load that starts faster and kicks less. Pick the Ballistic Silvertip 170-grain if you want Winchester's general big-game load with a polymer tip. Pick Winchester's Copper Impact 162-grain Extreme Point if you need a lead-free bullet, and the Power-Point 170-grain if you prefer a traditional soft point with exposed lead at the nose.

Strengths
  • Carries a 175-grain bullet, 10 grains heavier than the Expedition Big Game 165-grain AccuBond LR
  • Leaves the muzzle 40 fps faster than the Copper Impact 162-grain Extreme Point
  • Starts with 151 more ft-lbs at the muzzle than the Copper Impact 162-grain Extreme Point
Limitations
  • Starts with 106 fewer ft-lbs at the muzzle than the Expedition Big Game 165-grain AccuBond LR, despite the heavier bullet
  • Kicks about 15 percent more than the Copper Impact 162-grain Extreme Point in the same rifle
  • Starts with 94 fewer ft-lbs at the muzzle than Winchester's Power-Point 170-grain
