Hornady's Frontier 123-grain FMJ is a brass-cased full metal jacket load, and Hornady pitches the Frontier line at plinking and target shooting. At 123 grains, it lets you practice with the same bullet weight as a 123-grain hunting or match load. The bullet has a G1 BC of .420 and leaves the muzzle at 2,580 fps.

Compared with Prvi Partizan's 110-grain FMJ-BT, the Frontier is the heavier, slower load. The Prvi Partizan leaves the muzzle 175 fps faster. Zeroed at 100 yards, the Frontier drops about 69 inches at 500 and the Prvi Partizan about 60. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Frontier about 26 inches sideways and the Prvi Partizan about 24. The Frontier also kicks about 17 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with AAC's 123-grain FMJ, the Frontier carries the same bullet weight and leaves the muzzle 55 fps faster, and the two kick about the same in the same rifle.

Buy the Frontier if your rifle's main load uses a 123-grain bullet and you want brass-cased practice ammunition of the same weight. Hornady markets its Custom 123-grain SST for medium game. The SST leaves the muzzle at the same 2,580 fps, and zeroed at 100 yards it drops about 16 inches at 300, where the Frontier drops about 17, so the Frontier makes a close practice partner for it. Pick the Prvi Partizan if you want a faster ball load that drops less at 500 yards. Pick the Wolf Military Classic 100 if light recoil matters most and your range accepts steel cases; it kicks about 31 percent less than the Frontier.
