Grizzly markets its +P 460-grain WFNGC for hunting deer, bear, elk and bison. WFNGC stands for wide flat nose gas check: a heavy bullet with a broad, flat tip and a gas check, a small metal cup, on its base. It leaves the muzzle at 1,850 fps with 3,495 ft-lbs of energy. Grizzly labels it +P, so check that your rifle is rated for +P .45-70 loads before you fire it.
Compared with HSM's 430-grain Bear Load, the Grizzly leaves the muzzle 49 fps faster and kicks about 17 percent harder in the same rifle. HSM markets the Bear Load for big game hunting. Compared with Buffalo Bore's 350-grain JFN, the Grizzly carries 110 more grains of bullet but 83 ft-lbs less energy at the muzzle, because the Buffalo Bore is much faster.
Buy the Grizzly if your rifle is rated for +P and you want a 460-grain bullet for the big game Grizzly names. Pick HSM's 430-grain Bear Load if you want a similar heavy bullet with less recoil. Pick Buffalo Bore's 350-grain JFN if you want more speed from a lighter bullet, as long as your rifle is on Buffalo Bore's list; Buffalo Bore warns never to fire it in a Trapdoor. If recoil matters most, Hornady's 325-grain LEVERevolution FTX, which Hornady markets for large game, kicks about 46 percent less in the same rifle.
