Barnes markets the VOR-TX 280-grain LRX for big game and medium game, and it suits a hunter who wants a copper bullet with no lead core. The LRX is Barnes' all-copper hunting bullet with a boat tail, rated at a G1 BC of .667. It leaves the muzzle at 2,600 fps and still carries 2,445 ft-lbs of energy at 500 yards.
Compared with Hornady's Precision Hunter 270-grain ELD-X, the Barnes starts 200 fps slower and gives up more to the wind. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Barnes about 15 inches sideways and the ELD-X about 12. Zeroed at 100 yards, the Barnes drops about 58 inches at 500 and the ELD-X about 47, and in the same rifle the two kick almost the same.
