Product Overview
Nosler sells its Expansion Tip 100-grain E-Tip for hunting what it calls America's most popular game, and it suits hunters who want a lead-free bullet that holds up in wind. The E-Tip is a polymer-tipped copper-alloy bullet with no lead core. It is rated at a G1 BC of .409 and leaves the muzzle at 3,200 fps.
Compared with Barnes' VOR-TX 100-grain TTSX, another tipped copper bullet, the E-Tip starts 25 fps slower but drifts less. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the E-Tip about 19 inches sideways and the TTSX about 23. Recoil is about the same in the same rifle. Compared with Nosler's Trophy Grade 100-grain Partition, a lead-core bullet, the trade is closer. The Partition starts 100 fps faster and drops a little less: zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 40 inches at 500 and the E-Tip about 42. The same wind pushes the Partition about 21 inches. The Partition also kicks about 4 percent harder in the same rifle.
Buy the E-Tip if you want a lead-free bullet and expect longer shots in wind. Pick the Partition if lead is fine where you hunt and you want the faster start. Pick the TTSX if you prefer Barnes' tipped copper design; the two drop within 2 inches of each other at 500 yards, so either one needs the same holds in the field.
