Product Overview
Barnes markets its VOR-TX 100-grain TTSX for hunting medium game, and it is a lead-free choice for hunters who want a tipped bullet. The TTSX is an all-copper bullet with a polymer tip, a boat tail and no lead core. It is rated at a G1 BC of .357, leaves the muzzle at 3,225 fps and still carries 1,323 ft-lbs of energy at 300 yards.
Compared with Federal Premium's 100-grain Barnes TSX, the same Barnes copper design without the tip, the TTSX starts 15 fps faster and drifts a little less. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the TTSX about 23 inches sideways and the TSX about 25. Recoil is about the same in the same rifle. Compared with Nosler's Expansion Tip 100-grain E-Tip, another tipped copper bullet, the TTSX starts 25 fps faster, but the E-Tip handles wind better: the same wind pushes it about 19 inches at 500. Zeroed at 100 yards, the TTSX drops about 43 inches at 500; the E-Tip about 42.
Buy the TTSX if you want a tipped copper bullet with a fast start. Pick the E-Tip if you shoot long across open country, where its smaller wind drift adds up. Pick the TSX if you prefer Barnes' copper hollow point without a tip; inside 300 yards the two drift within an inch of each other. If you have no need for a lead-free bullet, Nosler's Trophy Grade 100-grain Partition leaves the muzzle 75 fps faster.
