Barnes markets its VOR-TX 77-grain LRX for medium game and varmints. The LRX is an all-copper bullet with no lead core, rated at a G1 BC of .404, and this load starts it at 2,900 fps. Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 13 inches at 300 yards.
Compared with Federal's Fusion 90-grain, the Barnes gives up bullet weight for a flatter path. The Fusion drops about 15 inches at 300 yards from the same zero. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Barnes about 23 inches sideways and the Fusion about 24, so the two are close in wind. The Fusion kicks about 26 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with Federal's 60-grain Nosler Ballistic Tip, the Barnes is the heavier, slower choice: the Nosler leaves the muzzle 400 fps faster.
