Smith & Wesson released two blued N-Frame .45 revolvers on October 28, the Model 22 of 1917 Classic and the Model 22 Classic, each listed at $1,299 on the company’s product pages. The company announced the pair in a release that calls them a return to two of its large-frame military revolvers.
The Model 22 of 1917 Classic recreates the M1917 service revolver. It is chambered in .45 ACP, holds six rounds and has a 5.5-inch barrel, a half-moon front sight, an original-style lanyard loop and smooth walnut stocks. The cylinder is cut for moon clips, the flat rings that hold rimless cartridges in a revolver, and takes both half-moon and full-moon clips. Its product page lists it at 36.6 oz.
The Model 22 Classic is chambered for both .45 Auto and .45 Colt in one cylinder. It has a 4-inch barrel and a serrated ramp front sight, keeps the lanyard loop, walnut stocks and moon-clip cylinder, and weighs 35.6 oz. Both guns are single-action and double-action with carbon steel frames.
