Key Facts

  • Production of the LCR, SP101, GP100 and Bearcat stopped immediately, under Ruger's October 13 announcement.
  • Final 2026 production runs cover 15 lines, from the SR1911 to the Ruger Precision Rifle.
  • The Wrangler and Super Wrangler are the only revolvers Ruger lists as continuing into 2027.
  • Spokeswoman Abbey Clary said the changes do not necessarily mean the families are permanently discontinued.
  • Ruger has no specific product plans or reintroduction dates for names it expects to return.

Ruger halted production of its current-generation LCR, SP101, GP100 and Bearcat revolvers on October 13, the company confirmed to American Rifleman.

The stop took effect immediately for those four lines. The same announcement sets final production runs for 15 other lines, to be completed in 2026, so 19 lines are affected in all. Ruger’s March 24 shareholder release described almost 800 variations of more than 40 product lines across the Ruger, Marlin and Glenfield brands.

Abbey Clary, Ruger’s director of media, advertising and public relations, said the changes are part of the Ruger 2030 strategy and “does not necessarily mean these product families are permanently discontinued.” In the company’s wording, then, the four halted lines are suspended and the 15 others are finishing a last run for the year.

Clary said the decisions came from a review of consumer demand, changing market preferences, manufacturing complexity and the long-term profitability of each family. Ruger wants its resources on the products buyers want most now. It also wants room for future product development and manufacturing modernization.

She added that Ruger knows how important these platforms are to its heritage and its customers. In many cases the company sees a chance to bring them back with new designs, upgrades and modern manufacturing methods. Ruger expects some names to return in new forms but has no specific product plans or reintroduction timelines.

The first group of lines getting final 2026 runs is below.

  • SR1911
  • LC Carbine
  • PC Charger
  • PC Carbine
  • LC Charger
  • Redhawk
  • Super Redhawk

Ruger also named these eight for final runs.

  • Blackhawk
  • Super Blackhawk
  • Single-Series revolvers
  • Vaquero
  • No. 1
  • 77-Series rifles
  • Hawkeye
  • Ruger Precision Rifle

Ruger said these lines continue into 2027.

  • Handguns: LCP, RXM, MAX-9, Security-380, Security-9, Ruger 5.7, Mark IV and 22 Charger
  • Revolvers: Wrangler and Super Wrangler
  • Rifles: American Rifle, American Rimfire, Ruger Precision Rimfire, Harrier, 10/22 and Mini-14

The cuts change the single-action revolver picture. Ruger’s Wrangler manual covers the Wrangler and Super Wrangler as single-action revolvers. With the Bearcat stopped and the Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, Vaquero and Single-Series on final runs, The Firearm Blog noted that the two Wranglers would be the only single-action revolver lines in regular production next year. The blog added that no centerfire single-action revolver is announced for regular production.

The same outlet noted that Ruger’s 2030 presentation had already described plans to simplify its products and devote capacity to higher-demand models. It also pointed out that the Ruger Precision Rimfire is a separate product from the Ruger Precision Rifle and was not on the suspension list.

Ruger did not say if parts or service for existing firearms will end. It gave no model-by-model last-production date inside the 2026 window.
