About This Firearm
The Hellcat RDP is the Rapid Defense Package version of Springfield's micro-compact Hellcat: the same small frame with an optic-ready slide, a longer threaded barrel and a compensator installed. It is for the carrier who wants a comped, dot-ready micro without building one from parts. At $802, the question is whether the comp earns its cost and length over a plain optic-ready micro.
The comp is Springfield's patented Self Indexing Compensator, built to install and remove easily from the 1/2x28 threaded barrel. Next to the standard Springfield Armory Hellcat, the RDP adds 1.0 inch of length, 1.1 oz and $203, and the base non-OSP Hellcat has no optic cut. The Sig Sauer P365 XL is a common alternative for dot carry: it weighs 1.3 oz more, and holds 12 in its flush magazine. The Glock G43X MOS is also optic-ready and lighter at 18.55 oz.
Buy the Hellcat RDP if you want a carry micro that comes with a comp and a threaded muzzle, and you will mount a dot on it. Skip it if your holster setup or waistline can't take the extra length, or if you never plan to shoot it fast; the P365 XL is simpler to fit.

- A compensator, threaded barrel and optic cut come from the factory, so there is no gunsmith or aftermarket slide to buy.
- Two magazines ship with it, an 11-round with a pinky extension and a 13-round extended, so the same gun can carry small and still offer more rounds at home.
- The 7.0-inch overall length rules out closed-muzzle Hellcat holsters. You need a holster cut for the RDP or one with an open muzzle long enough to clear the comp.
- The comp vents gas upward, which adds flash in low light and can put carbon on the optic lens.
