About This Firearm
The SP-01 is the heaviest full-size 9mm you can buy from a major manufacturer. At 40.7 oz unloaded, it outweighs the Beretta 92FS by 7.4 oz and the FN 509 by over 14 oz. That mass is the point. When the gun cycles, there is less muzzle movement than any polymer-framed 9mm can achieve. The DA/SA trigger breaks at 4.5 lbs in single-action after a long first pull, and the 18-round capacity matches or beats everything in the full-size class.
CZ built the SP-01 on the proven 75 B platform and added what competition and duty shooters asked for: a Picatinny rail, rubber grips, factory tritium night sights, and 2 extra rounds. The 4.6-inch cold-hammer-forged barrel, manual safety, and external hammer carry over from the base model. The ambidextrous controls work for left-handed shooters. No optic cut on the standard model, which is the one real gap in an otherwise thorough package.
NATO adopted the SP-01 as a standard-issue sidearm for Czech military units. USPSA Production and IDPA ESP competitors run the SP-01 and its Shadow 2 derivative in numbers that rival any other platform. The gun was designed for sustained accuracy under rapid fire, and fifty years of iteration on the CZ 75 platform shows in the fit between frame and slide.

Strengths & Limitations
- At 40.7 oz, the all-steel construction delivers less felt recoil than any polymer-framed full-size 9mm. Rapid strings stay flatter than on the Beretta 92FS (33.3 oz) or any striker-fired alternative
- Eighteen-round capacity matches or beats every full-size 9mm competitor, including the Canik SFx Rival (18 rounds) and the Glock G17 Gen5 (17 rounds)
- Factory tritium night sights, Picatinny rail, and rubber grips come standard. The Beretta 92FS ships with basic white-dot sights and no rail
- The 40.7 oz weight makes holstered carry uncomfortable for extended periods. The Springfield Echelon delivers 17 rounds at 26.2 oz
- No optic mounting system on the standard model. The CZ Shadow 2 OR adds an optic cut but at a higher price tier

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the CZ 75 SP-01 compare to the CZ Shadow 2?
The Shadow 2 is the competition-tuned evolution of the SP-01. It weighs 46.5 oz versus the SP-01's 40.7 oz. The Shadow 2 has a longer sight radius, undercut trigger guard, and a refined trigger with less overtravel. The SP-01 includes a manual safety and firing pin block that the Shadow 2 omits. For USPSA Production, both are competitive. The Shadow 2 is built specifically for match use. The SP-01 splits the difference between competition and practical duty roles.
What holsters fit the CZ 75 SP-01?
The SP-01 uses a different frame profile than Glock or Sig pistols, so generic holsters rarely fit. Kydex holster makers like Safariland, Blade-Tech, and ANR Design offer SP-01 models. For competition, CR Speed and Double Alpha make race holsters specifically for the SP-01 and Shadow 2. Check that any holster accommodates the Picatinny rail and your mounted light. Order times for CZ-specific holsters run longer than for Glock-pattern molds.
