The Glock G40 Gen4 MOS is a long-slide striker-fired 10mm built for handgun hunting. It is current in Glock's lineup. Its 6.02-inch barrel gives a heavy hunting load more distance to build velocity than any other 10mm Glock, and Glock pairs that long slide with a 15-round magazine.

The slide is cut for Glock's Modular Optic System, so a reflex sight mounts on the slide without a new slide or a separate mount. Three magazines come in the case with the adapter plates, backstraps, a magazine loader, a cleaning brush, a sight adjustment tool and a cable lock. The magazine catch reverses. Trigger pull is 5.4 lb and there is no manual safety. The pistol runs 9.49 inches long and 1.34 inches wide at 35.45 oz.

Against its rivals, the Dan Wesson Bruin covers the same hunting brief as a 1911, with a 6-inch barrel and a factory optic cut, 8.45 oz heavier at 43.9 oz and holding eight rounds. The Glock G20 Gen5 MOS is this pistol with 1.41 inches less barrel, 8.07 inches overall, and a 5.8 lb trigger, so the long slide costs length and gains velocity and a longer sight span.
