Fiocchi's Range Dynamics 40-grain FMJ is a practice load for 5.7x28mm, sold under Fiocchi's high-velocity training heading. Its bullet is a plain full metal jacket with no expanding feature. It leaves the muzzle at 1,700 fps with 257 ft-lbs.
Zeroed at 25 yards, it is 0.3 inch low at 50, arriving at 1,536 fps with 210 ft-lbs. One hold covers the whole of a pistol bay, and a 40-grain bullet asks almost nothing of the shooting hand.
If you're cross-shopping, Federal's American Eagle 40-grain is the other practice load at this bullet weight, 45 fps slower at 1,655 fps and 14 ft-lbs behind at the muzzle. Its estimated recoil is about 4 percent under this load's, and it drops two tenths of an inch more at 50 yards.
