Federal's American Eagle 40-grain is a jacketed practice load for 5.7x28mm, boxed for target shooting. Federal names the bullet a full metal jacket while the name on this page says TMJ. It leaves the muzzle at 1,655 fps with 243 ft-lbs.
Zeroed at 25 yards, it is 0.5 inch low at 50, arriving at 1,391 fps with 172 ft-lbs. That is the most drop of any supersonic load in the caliber, and it is still only half an inch across the length of a pistol bay.
If you're cross-shopping, Fiocchi's Range Dynamics 40-grain FMJ is the other practice load at this bullet weight. It leaves 45 fps faster at 1,700 fps with 14 ft-lbs more at the muzzle, and its estimated recoil runs a few percent above this load's. Neither gap will show on a target.
