Product Overview
Fiocchi's Hyperformance 40-grain is a polymer-tipped 5.7x28mm load made for self-defense. Fiocchi names nothing about the bullet beyond its tip, which is pointed instead of hollowed. Muzzle velocity is 1,750 fps for 272 ft-lbs.
Zeroed at 25 yards, it is 0.3 inch low at 50, still moving 1,582 fps with 222 ft-lbs. It holds more speed out to that distance than any other 40-grain load in the caliber, and the three expanding 40s all drop the same three tenths of an inch.
If you're cross-shopping, Speer's Gold Dot 40-grain starts 50 fps faster at 1,800 fps, carries 16 ft-lbs more at the muzzle and is the hollow point of the group. FN Herstal's SS197SR 40-grain uses a V-Max bullet, polymer-tipped like this one, and starts 12 fps slower.
