Product Overview
Winchester's Super-X 250-grain LFN is a plain lead flat nose loaded to a mild 750 fps and 312 ft-lbs. Power factor is 188, 14 percent over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero it drops 3.5 inches at 50 yards and 23.5 inches at 100. The bullet is bare lead, and some indoor ranges restrict exposed lead.
Its whole group uses lead bullets. Fiocchi Cowboy Action 250-grain LRNFP matches it exactly on paper: 750 fps, 312 ft-lbs and the same recoil energy in the same revolver. Black Hills 250-grain RNFP is the mildest of the 250s, 25 fps slower with 20 ft-lbs less and about 5 percent less recoil than the Super-X, and it still makes major at a power factor of 181. Atomic 200-grain LRNFP is 50 fps faster but 28 ft-lbs behind, and its lighter bullet gives a power factor of 160, which falls short of major and scores minor against the 125 floor. None of these loads changes the hold at 25 yards, where all are zeroed.
Buy it for cowboy-action practice, plinking and relaxed revolver sessions at an outdoor range or one that accepts bare lead, where major power factor at modest recoil is the goal. If you shoot minor or simply want the lightest recoil in the group, Atomic 200-grain LRNFP produces about 29 percent less recoil energy in the same revolver.
