Underwood loads this 255-grain LSWCGC, a plain lead semi-wadcutter with a gas check on its base, to 1,000 fps and 566 ft-lbs, which is full standard-pressure .45 Colt speed rather than cowboy speed. Power factor is 255 against the 165 major floor. From a 25-yard zero it drops 1.9 inches at 50 yards and 13.4 inches at 100. The nickel-plated brass case is reloadable, and there is no +P restriction.
The other lead loads it is compared with are all cowboy-action loads, and this one is nowhere near them. Fiocchi Cowboy Action 250-grain LRNFP is 250 fps slower with 254 ft-lbs less energy; Black Hills 250-grain RNFP is 275 fps slower with 274 ft-lbs less; Atomic 200-grain LRNFP is 200 fps slower and 282 ft-lbs behind. If you want the same 255-grain weight built as a hard-cast hunting solid instead, DoubleTap Hunter 255-grain HCSW is 25 fps slower with about 4 percent less recoil energy in the same revolver.
