Power factor is 211, 28 percent over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero it drops 2.7 inches at 50 yards and 18.3 inches at 100. Pressure is standard.

Ammo Inc 250-grain JHP is its near-twin: 3 fps slower, 2 ft-lbs behind and within 1 percent on recoil in the same revolver, with a hollow point in place of the JSP. Remington HTP 230-grain JHP runs 5 fps faster with 27 ft-lbs less energy, and Fort Scott Munitions 225-grain TUI is 24 fps faster but 19 ft-lbs behind; the Bigbore produces about 17 and 18 percent more recoil energy than those two. Underwood 225-grain Soft Cast HP is 205 fps faster with 155 ft-lbs more and about 16 percent more recoil than the Bigbore. Underwood +P 250-grain XTP JHP is in another class, 555 fps faster with 692 ft-lbs more and about 135 percent more recoil, and the maker restricts it to large-frame Ruger revolvers and similar rated for +P.

Buy it when you want a full 250-grain expanding bullet at standard pressure for field carry in a .45 Colt revolver, including one that is not rated for +P. For practice at the same recoil, Ammo Inc Signature 250-grain TMC runs 842 fps with a bullet that does not expand. If you want a defensive load that is easier to control, Hornady Critical Defense 185-grain FTX leaves the muzzle at 920 fps with about 37 percent less recoil energy in the same revolver.
