Underwood's 225-grain Soft Cast HP is a cast lead hollow point meant to expand at modest velocity, driven to 1,050 fps and 551 ft-lbs. Power factor is 236, 43 percent over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero it drops 1.7 inches at 50 yards and 12.1 inches at 100. The case is nickel-plated brass.
Every load it is compared with uses the same 225-grain bullet weight, and every one is at least 181 fps slower. Fort Scott Munitions 225-grain TUI, the fastest of them, trails by 181 fps and 174 ft-lbs, and the Underwood produces about 37 percent more recoil energy in the same revolver. Federal American Eagle 225-grain JSP is 190 fps and 182 ft-lbs behind, with about 28 percent less recoil than the Underwood. Sierra Sports Master 225-grain JHP and Winchester PDX1 Defender 225-grain JHP share 850 fps, 200 fps slower.
