Product Overview
Ammo Inc's 250-grain JHP is a full-weight jacketed hollow point meant to expand, loaded to 842 fps and 394 ft-lbs at the muzzle. Power factor is 211, well over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero it drops 2.7 inches at 50 yards and 18.4 inches at 100. It is a standard-pressure load in a brass case.
Winchester Bigbore 250-grain JSP is its near-twin: 3 fps faster, 2 ft-lbs ahead and within 1 percent on recoil in the same revolver, with a JSP bullet in place of a hollow point. CCI Blazer 200-grain JHP goes the other way, 158 fps faster with 50 ft-lbs more energy, yet the Ammo Inc's 50 extra grains of bullet give it about 18 percent more recoil. Sierra Sports Master 225-grain JHP matches its speed within 8 fps but carries 33 ft-lbs less, and the Ammo Inc produces about 22 percent more recoil energy than the Sierra. Of the three hollow points, this one pairs the slowest muzzle speed with the heaviest bullet.
Buy it when you want a heavy hollow point for a standard-pressure .45 Colt revolver and can accept the most recoil of the hollow points here. If you want the Blazer's speed with less recoil, that load is the better pick. For practice at the same speed, Ammo Inc Signature 250-grain TMC matches its 842 fps with a bullet that does not expand. For a milder defensive load, Hornady Critical Defense 185-grain FTX runs 920 fps with about 37 percent less recoil energy in the same revolver.
