Product Overview
Buffalo Bore's Heavy .45 Colt +P loads a 300-grain jacketed flat nose, a solid that does not expand and is built to drive deep and straight for hunting and bear defense. It leaves at 1,325 fps with 1,170 ft-lbs, for a power factor of 398 against the 165 major floor. From a 25-yard zero it is 0.9 inch low at 50 yards and 7.5 inches low at 100. The brass case is reloadable. This is a +P load, and the maker restricts it to large-frame Ruger revolvers and similar guns rated for it; check your revolver before loading it.
It sits between the two DoubleTap +P solids. The DoubleTap +P 255-grain HCSW is 125 fps faster and 20 ft-lbs ahead at the muzzle, while the DoubleTap Hunter +P 360-grain HCSLD is 125 fps slower and 19 ft-lbs behind; power factor runs 370, 398 and 432 in that order. Both carry the same +P restriction, so the same check on your revolver applies. Against the standard-pressure solids the gap is large. DoubleTap Hunter 255-grain HCSW gives up 350 fps and 632 ft-lbs, and Underwood 225-grain Hard Cast WC gives up 275 fps and 619 ft-lbs.
This is a hunting and bear-defense load for large-frame Ruger revolvers and similar, and the middle choice of the three +P solids for a shooter who wants more bullet than the 255-grain and less recoil than the 360-grain. If your revolver is not rated for +P, or you want a heavy lead bullet at practice-level recoil, Underwood 255-grain LSWCGC at 1,000 fps and 566 ft-lbs produces about 55 percent less recoil energy in the same revolver.

- About 18 percent less recoil energy than the DoubleTap Hunter +P 360-grain HCSLD in the same revolver, with more energy at the muzzle
