DoubleTap's Hunter .45 Colt +P fires a massive 360gr hard cast semi-wadcutter lead bullet at 1,200 fps, producing 1,151 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. This is one of the heaviest-bullet .45 Colt loads commercially available. Like all +P .45 Colt ammunition, it is strictly for modern heavy-frame revolvers: Ruger Blackhawk, Ruger Redhawk, Freedom Arms Model 83, and similar guns built on large frames. Never load this in SAA clones, older Colts, or lightweight revolvers.

The 360gr HCSLD bullet is exceptionally heavy for the caliber and designed for maximum straight-line penetration. At 1,200 fps, it carries momentum that lighter bullets at higher velocity cannot match. The hard cast alloy resists deformation, so the bullet maintains its flat nose profile as it drives through tissue and bone. Compared to the DoubleTap 255gr HCSW +P at 1,450 fps and 1,190 ft-lbs, this 360gr load trades velocity for bullet mass. The Buffalo Bore Heavy 300gr SJFP +P at 1,700 fps and 1,924 ft-lbs hits harder overall, but costs more and produces even more recoil.

This load exists for hunters going after large, tough animals with a revolver. The 360gr hard cast bullet at +P velocity will drive through the heaviest bone structure on North American game. Black bear, wild boar, and elk at close revolver range are all realistic targets. It is also an excellent choice for dangerous-game backup when you need a revolver that punches through a charging animal. The weight and momentum of the 360gr bullet give it penetration advantages over lighter, faster bullets that may deflect off heavy bone. Expect serious recoil, but that comes with the territory when you push a .45 Colt this hard.
