At 975 fps with a 255-grain hard-cast semi-wadcutter, DoubleTap's Hunter load is the standard-pressure member of the HCSW family: a flat-nose solid that does not expand, built to drive deep and straight for hunting and bear defense. Muzzle energy is 538 ft-lbs and the power factor is 249, 84 points over the 165 major floor. From a 25-yard zero it drops 1.9 inches at 50 yards and 13.7 inches at 100. The brass case is reloadable, and there is no +P restriction.
Its closest match is the Underwood 225-grain Hard Cast WC, the only other standard-pressure solid in the group. The Underwood is 75 fps faster with 13 ft-lbs more energy from a lighter bullet, while this load's power factor is 12 points higher. The two +P solids are a different class of load. The DoubleTap +P 255-grain HCSW is the same bullet at 1,450 fps, 475 fps faster with 652 ft-lbs more energy, and Buffalo Bore Heavy 300-grain SJFP is 350 fps faster with 632 ft-lbs more.
