Product Overview
CCI's Blazer .45 Colt sends a 200-grain jacketed hollow point, a defensive bullet, out at 1,000 fps with 444 ft-lbs. Power factor is 200, 35 points over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero the bullet is 1.8 inches low at 50 yards and 13.1 inches low at 100. The case is aluminum, which cannot be reloaded.
Barnes VOR-TX 200-grain XPB is 25 fps and 23 ft-lbs ahead of the Blazer with about 4 percent more recoil energy in the same revolver. Corbon's +P 200-grain JHP is 100 fps and 93 ft-lbs ahead with about 17 percent more recoil, and Corbon restricts it to revolvers rated for +P, so check yours. The heavier loads are slower: Sierra Sports Master 225-grain JHP starts 150 fps and 83 ft-lbs behind the Blazer with about 3 percent less recoil, and Ammo Inc 250-grain JHP starts 158 fps and 50 ft-lbs behind yet recoils about 18 percent more. Hornady Critical Defense 185-grain FTX is 80 fps and 96 ft-lbs behind at the muzzle.
Buy it as a defensive load for a .45 Colt not rated for +P when you want a fast 200-grain hollow point and do not reload. If recoil matters more than energy, Critical Defense 185 recoils about 25 percent less. The Extreme Defender 135-grain runs 1,410 fps and 596 ft-lbs, 152 more than the Blazer, with about 18 percent less recoil energy in the same revolver. For cowboy matches or practice, Atomic's 200-grain LRNFP at 800 fps recoils about 30 percent less.

- Standard pressure: 444 ft-lbs without the +P rating that Corbon +P 200-grain JHP requires

- Aluminum case cannot be reloaded, unlike the brass of Barnes VOR-TX, Sierra Sports Master and Corbon +P
- Ammo Inc 250-grain JHP makes the higher power factor, 211 against 200, from its heavier bullet
