Sierra's Sports Master .45 Colt runs a 225-grain jacketed hollow point, a defensive bullet, at 850 fps for 361 ft-lbs. Power factor is 191, about 26 points over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero it is 2.6 inches low at 50 yards and 18.0 inches low at 100. Of the four loads compared here, it has the lowest recoil energy.
Its nearest neighbor is Fort Scott Munitions 225-grain TUI at 869 fps and 377 ft-lbs, 19 fps and 16 ft-lbs ahead of the Sierra with about 4 percent more recoil energy in the same revolver. CCI Blazer 200-grain JHP is the fast hollow point at 1,000 fps and 444 ft-lbs, 150 fps and 83 ft-lbs ahead, for only about 3 percent more recoil.
