PMC Bronze 230-grain FMJ is .45 ball at the mild end of the spread: 830 fps and 352 ft-lbs at the muzzle. That is a power factor of 191, enough for USPSA major. From a 25-yard zero it prints 2.8 inches low at 50 yards and 19.1 inches low at 100, slowing to 789 fps at the 50-yard line and 751 fps at 100. In the same pistol it ties CCI Blazer 230 and Speer Lawman 230 TMJ for the least recoil energy in this set.
Those two are identical to the PMC at the muzzle, 830 fps and 352 ft-lbs each. Downrange they hold speed slightly better, 5 fps ahead at 50 yards and 9 to 11 fps ahead at 100, with 0.2 inch less drop at 100, not enough to change a hold. Sellier & Bellot 230 is 23 fps faster at 853 fps, with 20 ft-lbs more and about 4 percent more recoil energy in the same pistol, and it drops 1.6 inches less at 100 yards, 17.5 against 19.1. Norma Range & Training 230 leaves at the same 853 fps. Buy PMC Bronze for long practice sessions where soft recoil matters more than speed, and for a new .45 shooter. It is the wrong pick as a stand-in for a full-power carry load. Federal HST 230 JHP leaves at 890 fps with 404 ft-lbs and produces about 12 percent more recoil energy than this load in the same pistol. Ammo Inc Signature Series 230 TMC matches the HST's 890 fps and is the closer rehearsal; Sellier & Bellot 230 splits the difference.
