Speer's Lawman 230-grain TMJ puts a fully enclosed bullet with no exposed lead into a standard .45 ball load, and that is the reason to choose it for an indoor range. It leaves at 830 fps with 352 ft-lbs, a power factor of 191 that makes USPSA major. From a 25-yard zero it is 2.8 inches low at 50 yards and 18.9 inches low at 100, still carrying 760 fps there. In the same pistol it ties New Republic 230 for the lowest recoil energy in this set.
New Republic 230 is identical at the muzzle, 830 fps and 352 ft-lbs. Remington UMC 230 is 5 fps faster, with about 1 percent more recoil energy in the same pistol and an 8 fps lead at 100 yards. Sellier & Bellot 230 and Norma Range & Training 230 both leave at 853 fps, 23 fps faster than the Lawman; the S&B holds a 39 fps lead at 100 yards and drops 1.4 inches less there.
