CCI Blazer Aluminum 230-grain FMJ leaves at 845 fps with 365 ft-lbs, a power factor of 194 that makes USPSA major. The aluminum case is not reloadable. From a 25-yard zero it prints 2.7 inches low at 50 yards and 18.2 inches low at 100, still at 808 fps at 50 yards. In the same pistol it produces about 3 percent more recoil energy than New Republic 230 and Speer Lawman 230, the two 830 fps loads in this set.

This is the middle of the set. New Republic 230 and Speer Lawman 230 TMJ leave 15 fps slower with 13 ft-lbs less; Remington UMC 230 at 835 fps is 10 fps and 9 ft-lbs behind, with about 2 percent less recoil energy in the same pistol. Norma Range & Training 230 runs 8 fps faster at 853 fps with 6 ft-lbs more. American Eagle 230 is the only load that separates itself: 890 fps and 404 ft-lbs, 45 fps and 39 ft-lbs over this one, and 2.1 inches less drop at 100 yards, 16.1 against 18.2. Against New Republic 230 and Speer Lawman 230 the computed drop differs by 0.1 inch at 50 yards, with this load 14 fps faster there.

Buy it for volume practice where the brass would not come home anyway, and as a stand-in for a standard-pressure 230-grain carry load. Federal HST 230 JHP leaves at 890 fps, 45 fps faster, and this load produces about 8 percent less recoil energy than it in the same pistol; American Eagle 230 duplicates the HST's 890 fps and 404 ft-lbs and is the closer rehearsal. Buy a brass load such as New Republic 230 if you reload, and Speer Lawman 230 TMJ if the range restricts exposed lead.
