Fiocchi's 200-grain semi-jacketed hollow point splits the .44 Magnum field between the 180s and the 225 to 240-grain loads: 1,475 fps and 966 ft-lbs at the muzzle. Power factor is 295, 130 points over the USPSA major floor of 165; all the loads compared here make major easily. From a 25-yard zero it sits 0.6 inches low at 50 yards and 5.8 inches low at 100. A semi-jacketed hollow point leaves lead exposed around the hollow nose and is meant to expand on impact.
The 180s bracket it. PMC Bronze 180 carries 259 ft-lbs more at the muzzle and produces about 10 percent more recoil energy in the same revolver; Federal Power-Shok 180 carries 114 less and produces about 20 percent less recoil. Above it in bullet weight, Hornady LEVERevolution 225 kicks about 17 percent harder in the same revolver. Federal HST 230 is the soft load of the group, with 365 ft-lbs less energy and about 22 percent less recoil.
Buy this if you want a self-defense hollow point from the middle of the .44 Magnum weight range, softer in the hand than a hot 180 or a 225. Remington UMC 180 is the closest match in the set, 70 ft-lbs ahead at the muzzle, and is the one to cross-shop. If you want a hunting load with more energy, Hornady Backcountry Defense 240-grain hard cast delivers 1,398 ft-lbs, 432 more than the Fiocchi, with about 70 percent more recoil energy in the same revolver.
