Federal's American Eagle 100-grain FMJ leaves the muzzle at 1,250 fps with 347 ft-lbs of energy, and that works out to a power factor of exactly 125. It makes USPSA minor, but with nothing to spare. From a 25-yard zero the bullet is 1.1 inches low at 50 yards and 8.4 inches low at 100, and it is still moving at 1,130 fps at the 50-yard line. The FMJ is a plain practice bullet.
Remington UMC 100-grain FMJ is the same load on paper. Both leave the muzzle at 1,250 fps with 347 ft-lbs, both make a power factor of 125, both drop 1.1 inches at 50 yards and 8.4 inches at 100, and in the same pistol their recoil energy is identical. Nothing in the numbers separates them, so either box can go into the same practice session without a change in hold or feel. The thin power factor applies to both: any velocity your pistol loses against the published figure puts them under the minor floor.
Buy American Eagle for practice in a .30 Super Carry pistol, and chronograph it in your own gun before counting on it for USPSA minor. If you carry Remington HTP 100-grain JHP, this is a close stand-in: the HTP produces about 2 percent less recoil energy in the same pistol and drops only 0.2 inches more at 100 yards. Anyone who needs a hollow point for carry should buy the HTP rather than this FMJ.
