Nevada Draw Odds

Nevada is a pure bonus-point lottery: every application gets one random draw number plus one more for each bonus point squared (5 points = 26 numbers), only your lowest number counts, and there is no points-only pass, so anyone can draw and nobody is guaranteed. Roughly 10% of each male hunt's quota is set aside for nonresidents, unit group by unit group, and points are burned when you draw any choice.

You need a valid Nevada hunting or combination licence ($155 nonresident) at draw time to earn a point; application fees ($15 elk, $10 deer/antelope, plus $3 + $1 statutory fees) are non-refundable and the tag fee ($1,200 bull elk, $240 deer, $300 antelope nonresident) is charged only if you draw. Apply online from late March to mid-May (May 13, 2026), results by the end of May; a second draw for leftovers runs mid-June and first-come sales start in July.

Elk
10% The Commission aims for roughly a 90/10 resident and nonresident split of each male quota, set hunt by hunt in the annual quota regulation.
Deer
10% The same rough 90/10 split; the guided nonresident mule deer tags are taken out of the nonresident rifle quota.
Pronghorn
10% The same rough 90/10 split, and nonresident antelope hunts are only for bucks whose horns are longer than their ears.
Bighorn sheep
10% The same rough 90/10 split, applied hunt by hunt, so many nonresident ram quotas come out at zero to two tags.
Mountain goat
10% The same rough 90/10 split; nonresidents have their own billy hunt alongside the resident one.
Moose
10% The same rough 90/10 split, applied to whichever moose hunts carry a nonresident quota.

Points Expire

Every species
All points for a category are lost if the applicant does not apply for a tag or a bonus point for 2 consecutive calendar years in which that hunt is open (NAC 502.4187(2)(b)).
How This Draw Works, With an Example

Bonus points (squared): Every applicant gets points² + 1 entries in a random draw, so more points mean more chances, but never a guarantee.

Buying Points

A nonresident can buy a Bonus point only in Nevada without applying for a tag. Submit a bonus-point-only application in place of a tag application in any standard big game application period; points are sold again in the second draw to anyone who neither earned a point nor drew in the main draw.

Drawing any choice on your application spends the points you built. Nevada's rule for losing them: all points for a category are lost if the applicant does not apply for a tag or a bonus point for 2 consecutive calendar years in which that hunt is open (NAC 502.4187(2)(b)).
