About This Suppressor
The SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 is a high-temperature alloy and stainless steel rifle suppressor for 5.56 carbines. It has an MSRP of $1,329. SureFire designs it for 10-inch and longer M4 and M16 variants and says the construction withstands full-auto use.
It mounts with SureFire's Fast-Attach system onto SureFire flash hiders, muzzle brakes and WARCOMPs, so a SureFire muzzle device has to be on the rifle first. Those devices are separate purchases, and the can adds about 3.8 inches to the weapon depending on which one is used. A device left on each rifle lets the can move between them without tools.
If you're cross-shopping, the HUXWRX FLOW 556k has an MSRP of $1,306 and is 5.5 inches and 12.9 ounces on HUXWRX's own QD devices. The Dead Air Sierra 5 has an MSRP of $859 and a HUB rear thread that takes mounts from several makers. Of the three, the SOCOM556-RC2 asks the most money and carries the most weight at 17 ounces.
Strengths & Limitations
Pros
- The construction is rated to take full-auto use.
- At 1.5 inches across it is among the slimmest 5.56 cans on this list.
- Fast-Attach mounting shares muzzle devices with the rest of SureFire's suppressor line.
Cons
- SureFire muzzle devices are separate purchases, so the rifle needs one before the can will go on.
- SureFire builds it around M4 and M16 variants, so other platforms sit outside its stated design.
