About This Suppressor
The Dead Air Sierra 5 is a stainless steel rifle suppressor for 5.56 carbines. It has an MSRP of $859. Its baffles are Cobalt 6 and its rear threads are the industry-standard HUB 1.375-24 pattern, so the mounting system is a choice at purchase.
Dead Air sells it out of the box with either its KeyMo or its Xeno system, and the Xeno version includes a Xeno adapter and a 1/2-28 three-prong flash hider. With that adapter fitted it is 5.72 inches and 13.3 ounces, and bare it is 4.87 inches and 10.8 ounces. A muzzle device for a second rifle is the usual extra.
If you're cross-shopping, the Rugged Razor556 has an MSRP of $836, the same 1.5-inch diameter, and a Dual Taper Lock mount instead of a HUB thread. The Silencer Central Banish HD 556 Inc has an MSRP of $1,129, is Inconel, and also uses a HUB mount, at 15.6 ounces. Of the three, the Sierra 5 is the shortest with its mount fitted.
Strengths & Limitations
Pros
- A HUB rear thread, so the mount can change later without changing the can.
- Sold with a mounting system, so the purchase is a complete setup.
Cons
- Rated for 5.56 NATO and .224 Valkyrie, so .30-calibre hosts are out.
- Fitting the Xeno adapter adds length and weight over the bare can.
