About This Suppressor
The Rugged SurgeX is a modular stainless steel rifle suppressor for centre-fire rifles up to .300 RUM. It has an MSRP of $1,290. With the Rugged Universal Mount fitted it runs 9 inches and 19.4 ounces standard or 6.5 inches and 14.9 ounces short.
The rear threads are the industry-standard 1.375x24 pattern, so the Rugged Universal Mount, the Universal Direct Thread, the Universal Cage and other HUB mounts all fit. A 5/8x24 M2 brake, a 7.62 front cap, the Universal Mount and the ADAPT module all come with it. Without the mount the two builds measure 8.1 and 5.6 inches.
If you're cross-shopping, the Dead Air Sandman-S has an MSRP of $999, is fixed at 6.8 inches, and takes the same .300 RUM ceiling. The SureFire SOCOM300-SPS has an MSRP of $1,349 and 20 ounces at 7.9 inches on SureFire's Fast-Attach mount. Of the three, the SurgeX is the one with two lengths.
Strengths & Limitations
Pros
- Belt Fed Rated with no barrel-length restrictions.
- The brake, front cap, mount and ADAPT module are all in the box.
- HUB rear threads, so the mount is not tied to Rugged's own hardware.
Cons
- Among the heaviest .30-calibre cans on this list in its standard build.
- Stainless steel throughout, so it gives away several ounces to the titanium .30-calibre cans here.
Where to Buy
Online dealers ship to a licensed dealer (FFL) near you, where you fill out the background-check form. Some still process a Form 4 by default; ask if you want it registered.
