About This Suppressor
The Griffin Armament EXPLORR .300 Taper Mount is a stainless steel rifle suppressor for .30-calibre rifles up to .300 Winchester Magnum. It has an MSRP of $599.95, the lowest of the rifle suppressors on this list. It is laser-welded and tubeless, in fully H900 heat-treated 17-4 stainless steel.
It mounts on Griffin's Taper Mount RI system, and a 5/8x24 Taper Mount EZ Brake comes with it along with a pouch, so a rifle threaded 5/8x24 is covered as delivered. Griffin's other Taper Mount muzzle devices and taper mount direct thread adapters fit it too, bought separately. Griffin lists it as full-auto rated and not user-serviceable, and sets no minimum barrel length for rifle cartridges.
If you're cross-shopping, the Dead Air Sandman-S has an MSRP of $999, matches the 1.5-inch diameter, and is 17.7 ounces against this can's 10 ounces. The Thunder Beast Arms Ultra 7 Gen 2 has an MSRP of $1,180 and is titanium at 9.8 ounces. Of the three, the EXPLORR is the cheapest and the lighter of the two stainless cans.
Strengths & Limitations
Pros
- A laser-welded tubeless build, so there is no baffle stack to index.
- The muzzle brake and a pouch come with it, so a 5/8x24 rifle needs nothing else.
- Full-auto rated with no minimum barrel length for rifle cartridges.
Cons
- Not user-serviceable, so cleaning the stack is not an owner job.
- Mounting is tied to Griffin's Taper Mount devices, so each extra host needs one.
- Rated to .300 Winchester Magnum, so the .338 cartridges are out.
