About This Firearm

The LWRC IC-9 SBR is a Glock-fed chamber-ring delayed blowback 9mm Luger built for duty use and training. It has an MSRP of $1,999. LWRC forges the optic base into its MonoForge upper, so the rail is part of the receiver, and the rifle weighs 5.1 lbs at 25.75 inches with the stock out.

The 6 inch M-LOK rail takes a light and a sling, and the 8.5 inch barrel runs past it to 1/2x28 muzzle threads, so a suppressor you supply threads on clear of the handguard. One OEM Glock magazine comes with it, a 33 round or a 10 round. The stock collapses to 22.5 inches for a case.

If you're cross-shopping, the CMMG Suppressed ZEROED Banshee Mk4 SBR has an MSRP of $2,224.95 and includes a ZEROED 36 suppressor, so the can is paid for, though that rifle weighs 6.4 lbs. The Angstadt Arms MDP-9 GEN2 SBR has an MSRP of $2,175, weighs 4.56 lbs and folds for carry, but it feeds 17 round Glock magazines. All three share 1/2x28 muzzle threads, so one can moves between them.

Best For

GOOD
Duty Use
The fire and safety control, bolt catch release, magazine release and charging handle all work from both sides, so a left-handed shooter or an injured hand runs the rifle without reaching over the receiver. Nothing has to be bought or swapped to get there.
GOOD
Training
It feeds OEM Glock magazines, so a shooter who carries a Glock pistol runs both guns out of the same pouches, and a 33 round magazine makes for long strings between reloads.
FAIR
Truck or Pack Gun
The stock collapses but does not fold, so a case has to take the rifle end to end. The collapsed length is all the saving on offer, which is fine for a truck and tight for a pack.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths
  • With the rail base in the forging, there is no rail joint to come loose and shift your zero.
  • The enhanced fire control group is nickel Teflon coated, which puts a slick surface on the engagement faces for a cleaner reset.
  • Besides black, LWRC offers the IC-9 in Flat Dark Earth, Olive Drab Green, Patriot Brown and Tungsten Grey Cerakote.
Limitations
  • Those Cerakote colors cost extra over the standard black.
  • LWRC sells through dealers and not from its own store, so buying one means finding a dealer with stock instead of ordering direct.
  • A can threads straight onto the muzzle and adds back much of the length a short barrel was for.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the SBR differ from the other IC-9 models?

LWRC builds the IC-9 three ways, a full-length rifle, a pistol and this SBR. The pistol and the SBR share the 8.5 inch barrel; the difference between them is the shoulder stock.

Does it use AR-15 parts?

The fire control group is LWRC's own enhanced unit in an AR-pattern lower, and the grip is LWRC's Ultra Combat. The upper is the MonoForge, built around Glock magazines, so it is not an AR-15 upper.

Why does LWRC offer a 10 round magazine?

It is the low-capacity option for ranges and jurisdictions that cap magazine size. Both it and the larger stick are OEM Glock magazines, so either one drops into the same magwell.
